History
Just 1.8 square miles, Chelsea lies next to scenic Boston Harbor on the Mystic and Chelsea Rivers. Chelsea was settled in 1624, incorporated as a Town in 1794, and as a City in 1857. The Industrial Revolution transformed the once pastoral suburb into a bustling manufacturing center.

Hit by a massive fire in 1908 and again in 1973, the citizens and business people of Chelsea rebuilt their city each time with remarkable determination. Although proud of its industrial roots, Chelsea has many other important assets - tree-lined streets, a bustling downtown, ballparks, playgrounds, numerous restaurants, easy access to Boston by MBTA Commuter Rail, by car or bus, easy access to Logan International Airport. Chelsea is also home to three National Register Historic sites.
